One concern that isn’t addressed as often as it should be is the health of our cosmetics. The health of your cosmetics can mean knowing when to throw it away and when to keep it; however it also has a deeper meaning. Ask yourself this question; how healthy is your cosmetics for your body?
One of the most sensitive areas on our face is our eyes. One product we use on our eyes daily is eyeliner. Did you know that nutrients can be absorbed into the body through fragile eye tissue? This is why it’s imperative to guarantee that your eyeliner includes healthy ingredients to encourage eye health.
The guide below includes which ingredients to look for when shopping for your eye liner:
The Vitamin Gang
- Vitamins are fantastic for you, inside and out. When searching for eyeliner, be sure to check for Vitamin A, B, B2, C, and E:
- Vitamin A is excellent for repairing and maintaining healthy skin
- Vitamin B is instrumental for mental and physical health
- Vitamin B2 is an necessary part of the development, repair, growth, and reproduction of your eye tissue
- Vitamin C fights free radicals as well as providing your body with crucial antioxidants
- Vitamin E is for conditioning your skin
Essential Extracts
Extracts are very healthy for your eyes and should be a fundamental ingredient in your eye pencil. One extract to look for is a green tea leaf extract for a longer mortality rate and enhanced health. Another essential extract includes grape seed. Grape seed extracts have bioflavonoid complexes which are crucial for fighting free radicals. Lastly, another key extract is pine bark which is known to stop cancerous cells in the body.
Moisturizing Components
Lastly, moisture is very important for healthy eyes. Two moisturizing ingredients that should be included in your eye pencil include shea butter, which is known for its capability to repair and renew skin while providing flexibility and tone, and aloe vera, which provides your eyes with water and nutrients…especially for sensitive skin.
Remember , beauty shouldn’t be painful or unhealthy. Choose products that bring out your inner beauty while keeping your body safe and healthy.
One word that you are very familiar with, even it if you haven’t heard it before is PARABENS. Why? Because Parabens can be found in just about everything you use including lipsticks, moisturizers, or even your shampoos.
Parabens are naturally created, like those found in blueberries, so when a group of scientist released a report entitled “Concentration of Parabens in Human Breast Tumors“ many people, including the cosmetics industry, were caught by surprise. The report stated that it may be a possibility that parabens could be linked to breast cancer.
Wait… before you scream running to your bathroom to throw everything away, get the facts first. According to these scientist, parabens can be very sneaky. Like an agent in disguise, they can cause breast cancer by acting like estrogen.
However, the truth of the matter is that parabens are used in cosmetics as a way to safely protect consumers! They actually reduce and kill bacteria, fungi and molds and have an amazing safety record for keeping women around the world safe as they use these products daily. Unfortunately, due to these bad reports, parabens have been looked down on by consumers causing cosmetic companies to change their formulas to exclude parabans. This decision has unknowingly exposed consumers to products that have an increased chance of being un-protected from bacteria, fungi and mold.
The bottom line is that there is just not enough research to confirm any of the scientist findings:
- The bad press came from scientists that used only 20 individuals in the study without a control group; meaning, they didn’t have a normal group to compare their studies to.
- The studies were conducted on animals and only observed when they were purposely dosed with extremely high amounts of parabens. In reality, parabens are 100,0000 times weaker than the natural estrogen in a woman’s body!
- And most incriminating, the scientist said they could not prove where the parabens came from in their study. They don’t know if it came from food, cosmetics, or medicines!
After examining both sides, cancer research organizations have decided that larger studies need to be conducted in order to be sure that the parabens from the study caused breast cancer. Additionally, when compared to most other preservatives, the cancer research organizations state that when examining parabens and its track record, the safety benefits cannot be denied. Additionally, parabens have been proven to be:
- non-toxic
- non-mutagenic
- non-carcinogenic
- practically non-irritating
- non-sensitizing in the human population with normal skin
So, before you allow someone to play on your fear, do your research. Also, before you decide to use a product, do a little digging as well. Remember, your health always comes before beauty!
Since Ancient Egyptian times the cultivation of grapes have been a part of the world’s customs, not only for food and drink, but for their health benefits. Today, grapes and beauty have joined forces to create a new experience seen at all the latest spas called vine therapy. Vine therapy was launched in Europe and consists of treatments such as grape seed scrubs, skin care products, barrel baths, and much more.

Grape seed pedicures are usually paired with a foot soak or champagne bath. The pedicure itself includes grape seed oils to hydrate and exfoliate as well as grapeseed masque for increased skin moisture.
Barrel Baths
Barrel Baths are bubbly enriched vine based soaks that increase relaxation and can be done in conjunction with cranial massages. Depending on your choice, a red vine bath can increase circulation and a grape extract (from the seed, skin, stalk, and pulp) can exfoliate the body.
