Your skin sheds itself every twenty eight days to make way for newer skin cells. This is called the natural exfoliation process. This natural exfoliation doesn’t really shed enough skin and that is why it is imperative that we help it along by exfoliating our skin ourselves at least twice a week. As most manufactured exfoliants are hard on your skin, here are our favorite natural exfoliants that you can use to nourish your skin.

Oatmeal:

You wouldn’t think it but oatmeal isn’t just great as a breakfast, it’s also an amazing cheap exfoliant. It has anti-inflammatory properties and even acts as a natural moisturizer. It’s a very mild natural product, so it won’t tear or harm your skin in any way. A quick recipe, recommended by the Director of the Ritual Salon and Spa in Las Vegas, is one cup of blended oatmeal, mixed with one cup of yogurt and two spoons of honey. Once it’s formed a soft paste, apply it to your skin and leave it on for 15 minutes.

Lemon Juice:

Lemon juice contains alpha hydroxy acid. Your dead skin cells stick to your epidermis. Alpha hydroxy acid removes the chemical glue that causes these dead cells to stick. Lemon juice is great for the supply of vitamin C. It is also great for oily skins. Mix lemon juice with as much sugar as possible to make it thick but it should still be moist. Apply to a damp face and then let it sit for two to three minutes before scrubbing it in gently with circular motions.

Lemon juice and oatmeal are just two of the natural exfoliants you can use in your beauty routine. Try papaya, baking soda, sea salt or ground coffee to mix up your routine once in a while. Natural exfoliants are always cheaper and better for your skin. They are also environmentally friendly and can be sourced and used in your own home.
